RECREATION : BOATING & FISHING

With miles of smooth uninterrupted waterways, the scenic rivers and creeks that surround Palmetto Bluff are a paddlers’ paradise. In addition, miles of interior freshwater trails will connect the Village to other neighborhoods as well as the Bluff’s eastern shore.  From Wilson Landing, which offers dry storage for canoes, kayaks and power boats up to 36 feet, paddlers can also access the salt marshes of the May River. The May River gives power boaters access to the Intracoastal Waterway allowing safe and enjoyable excursions to nearby Hilton Head Island and the historic cities of Beaufort, SC and Savannah, GA.

Available for charter cruises are a 36-foot jet powered Hinckley Picnic Boat (six passengers) and Grace, a  meticulously restored 25 passenger 1913 wooden motor yacht. Club boats are on hand for member use making a fully stocked and provisioned boat only a phone call away.

In recent years, the Carolina Lowcountry has staked its reputation as one of America's prime sport fisheries.  Saltwater fly-fishing on the area's expansive salt marsh flats, in particular, has gained national recognition.  (Sight-casting to "tailing" Redfish offers the same thrill as Bonefish or Permit, only minutes from the dock.)

Speckled Trout, Flounder, Sheepshead and Black Drum also abound in local waters.  Tarpon are abundant June through September, and May brings the world's largest migration of Cobia up the Broad River.

In addition, freshwater fishing in Palmetto Bluff's numerous ponds is superb year-round.  Largemouth Bass and Bluegill grow to record sizes, and can be caught with flies, spinning tackle and live bait.

Few places in America offer the variety and consistent quality of fishing found at Palmetto Bluff.
