RECREATION : TRAILS & NATURE

All residential neighborhoods, the Inn, the Golf Club, the Canoe Club, are linked through a series of historic roads, paths and an innovative network of freshwater trails.

This intricate trail system will allow residents to reach their destinations by bicycle, foot, boat, horseback, golf cart or automobile. Certainly the most distinctive of these trails are the waterways, which will provide access to all parts of the island.

River Road Preserve
The 120-acre River Road Preserve is a natural haven for wildlife and sits on the eastern edge of Palmetto Bluff and fronts both the May River and the Cooper River.  An extensive trail system and park-like infrastructure includes observation posts, interpretive signage, comfort stations, docks along the water trail and many other innovative trail features, including a canopy walk through the trees.

The Preserve adds a significant new dimension to the Palmetto Bluff outdoor experience. The Conservation Easement, which is being managed by the non-profit North American Land Trust, will shield the tract from development in perpetuity.

Nature Programs
A primary goal of the Palmetto Bluff Conservancy is to educate residents through programs and activities. An expansive calendar of activities has been developed offering programs six days a week that will familiarize you with the natural history of Palmetto Bluff and the Lowcountry.

The Conservancy sponsors workshops, programs and lecture series to help our members learn more about their new home at Palmetto Bluff. Our Habitat Review Workshops are intended to connect members with their land and the rest of Palmetto Bluff through interactive morning discussions and afternoon field trips to various sites across the property.
